THE LANGUAGE OF COMICS – WORD AND IMAGE
Edited by Robin Varnum and Christina T. Gibbons
University of Mississippi, 2001

This is not an elaborated document, but more a conglomeration of notes and quotations from the book and some additional personal annotations and comments. By this, the document is not only aimed to collect and summarize but also to develop and research new ways of approaching my final MA project. Based on the varying essays from this book, I can also enhance and transfer the mentioned ideas and thoughts. You will see, that this document is completely fragmented and a mixture of different ideas, but as I said before: This is a kind of broad approach to my project, but also to design and visual communication in general. I know most of the graphic novel artists mentioned in this book, so it is very interesting and helpful to read this rather theory-based approach to their work.

If you are interested in graphic novels and the interaction of word and image within this media, I can strongly recommend this collection of essays.
