172 // MA-P / Documentation / Title
I decided to call this final MA piece machinatorium. The title machinatorium is a mixture of two latin expressions:
machina – a framing apparatus, a running system, a machinery that keeps everything together
laboratorium – the laboratory, a place to experiment and to realise new and unusual ideas
As the final piece of this course is in a way a running system where I tried to explore and play with different aspects of content, storytelling and graphics in motion, I decided to close the circle and name my last project as I did my blog. In my opinion a rather straightforward and nice decision.
The typeface, I have chosen for this title is called Iwan Reschniev by the Austrian designer Sebastian Nagel, published in 2008 (Source: http://www.fonts.info). In 1930 Jan Tschichold describes a new typeface in the publication “Börsenblatt für den Deutschen Buchhandels”, that “can be drawn by everyone without typographic knowledge”. Sebastian Nagel extended the original drawing to 7 weights with full coverage of the Latin 1 character set.
I like this idea of regenerating and digitalising an old and antique style with the help of the current tools as it is similar to what I did within this course and also for this current MA project.
