156 // MA-P / Research / Jean Tinguely

Jean Tinguely (22 May 1925 in Fribourg, Switzerland – 30 August 1991 in Bern) was a Swiss painter and sculptor. He is best known for his sculptural machines or kinetic art, in the Dada tradition; known officially as metamechanics. Tinguely’s art satirized the mindless overproduction of material goods in advanced industrial society. [From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia]

My sister was working in Basel for about 3 months and she told me that there is a very nice museum dedicated to Jean Tinguely. By this, I had a closer look at his work and I really appreciate his kinetic sculptures. All the different gears and parts working together, not only as a static, conceptual work but running and in motion. Also, I enjoyed having a closer look at his drawings and draft layout before starting to build something.

A very inspirational artist!
